Pensioners Trust

Pensioners Trust

What is the Pensioners Trust?

The Pensioners Trust has been set up by Age Sector Platform, and will be used to improve the lives of older people in Northern Ireland by:

  • Engaging with older people to identify the areas of concern to them; and
  • Supporting projects which will tackle these concerns for older people

Why is a Pensioners Trust needed?

With around 360,000 people aged 60 and over living in Northern Ireland, it is vital that their voices are heard, respected and acted upon.

  • 4 out of 5 pensioners here are worried about keeping warm in winter
  • 2 out of 3 pensioners are fearful of becoming a victim of crime
  • 2 out of 3 pensioners are concerned about the price of food
  • 1 in 4 pensioners feel lonely

With reduced Government spending and increasing number of older people, it is essential that resources are made available to engage, enable and empower the older population; and that resources are dedicated to tackling problems that are not currently being addressed by others.
