Age Sector Platform has emerged from the Age Sector Reference Group (ASRG) which was in operation for seven years supported by Help the Aged and Age Concern NI.
 ASRG was established in 2000 in direct response to devolution and the human rights and equality agenda, particularly in respect of Section 75 and the Civic Forum. It was established as a mechanism through which Government could effectively consult with older people and it sought to campaign, lobby and influence Government policy relating to older people.
The vision of ASRG at its formation was to build a collective voice regionally and sub-regionally; to strengthen its relationship with the older people’s unions, and to widen membership to include issue based organisations that work with older people.
In 2007, ASRG was successful in acquiring three years funding from The Atlantic Philanthropies. ASRG was re-branded and registered as a company limited by guarantee, in December 2007, under the name Age Sector Platform.
