Representatives from Age Sector Platform (ASP) met with Minister Paul Goggins today to discuss the important issue of Community Safety for older people. The meeting with the Minister was arranged on the back of Age Sector Platform’s response to the proposed community safety strategy entitled ‘Together. Stronger. Safer’ in February 2009. Michael Monaghan, one of the ASP representatives at the meeting, explained: “Age Sector Platform believes that a separate community safety strategy for older people is needed. This is something which was promised many years ago to our members, many of whom participated with great enthusiasm in a consultation process dating back to 2003, and yet six years on it has still not been delivered.” Mr Monaghan continued: “We hope that today’s meeting will ensure that progress is made on this issue, and that a community safety strategy for older people will be delivered.”
